Lanier Report – 10/2/15
Lake Lanier is around 4.5 feet below full pool but is on the rise. The recent rains and what we have coming should bring us back up some. Not great for us fishermen. The surface temps are in the mid 70′s but dropping with the cool nights and lack of sunshine.
Fishing has been pretty tough but it is starting to pick up now. I have had a good drop shot bite in the 35-40 feet of water around natural structure for about three weeks now and that bite is still pretty good for big fish. I have been dropping a 6″ Hand Poured SpotSticker worm in Cinnamon Purple, Hot tomato and SS Sunrise with a 3/8 ounce drop shot weight around any piece of cover I can find between the man made structure and the natural timber. There are just small pieced of cover in that area and the fish are around it. You may not mark them but they are there and once you catch one, you will see the rest.
During the morning, I have been running windy big rock points in the mid lake area with a white bladed Mini-Me spinnerbait in 3/4 ounce size. Most of the time I am just working this bait very shallow all the way back to the boat at a pretty good clip. Do not slow roll the bait, just run it fast and the fish will commit. I am also catching some nice fish up there on a Jerkbait and 10 diving crankbait.
Later in the day we have had good success working over brush (finally) with our white swim jig (Green pearl) and a 7/16 oz Underspin with Reaction Innovations skinny dipper on the back. Just swimming the Underspin over the brush about 15 feel below the surface.
Things are looking great for the winter bite is we can keep the lake from filling up. The lower water levels help concentrate the fish out deep and make things a little more predictable. Lets hope the rain gods slow down on us a bit.
As for openings, I appreciate all the calls and this is what I have coming up. Drop me a line and lets get out there and wet a hook. Thanks again
